A. Man’s Desire of Himself

1. Selfish living

A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire;
He rages against all wise judgment. Proverbs 18:1

• defying wisdom of man
• due to selfishness

2. Temptation of man – Overcome by his sinful passion

• 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. James 1:13
• 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. James 1:14
• 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. James 1:15

The process of conception of sin:

• ‘Conception Stage’
  • he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed by sin
  • desires that takes him over
• ‘Action Stage’ overpowers / overcomes him to ‘act’

3. Defilement a man

• 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. Matthew 15:19
• 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.” Matthew 15:20

What makes a man unclean:

• roots of sin that births from his heart & results in action
• not things that goes in but but comes out and births sin

4. Lust of the world

• 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15
• 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 1 John 2:16
• 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:17

B. God’s Desire for Man

1. For all man to be saved

• God’s nature of long suffering

Scripture 1:

• 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 1 Timothy 2:3
• 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:4

Scripture 2:

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

2. For all man to know God’s hope

15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding[a]being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Himat His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. Ephesians 1:15-23

• the hope of His calling
• the glory of His inheritance in the saints
• the exceeding greatness of God’s power to those who believe in Him

Key Summary:

1. Desires are real

2. Crucify the desires of flesh: And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:24

3. Baptise the desire to be filled with God’s desires

4. Desires that leads us downwards are Real but God has made a way

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God isfaithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
