A. MAN’S SELFISH WAYS

1. Man plans are selfish and devoid of God

  • To build a name in the world
  • To build a name in the heaven
  • Man’s selfishness marks the magnification of self

Tower of Babel: 1 Now the whole earth had one language and one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there. Then they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar. And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. And the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the Lordconfused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth. Genesis 11:1-9

2. Man’s selfish ways is the pathway that leads to failure

Pride goes before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

3. Man’s pride s is the pathway of failure

12 There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death. Proverbs 14:12

4. Man’s selfish ways is fuelled by convenience

  • Man chooses easy way in life
  • Man chooses ways of the masses

13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Matthew 7:13-14

5. Man’s selfish ways is led by delusion / dream

16 Then He spoke a parable to them, saying: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. 17 And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no room to store my crops?’ 18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided? Luke 12:16-20

B. GOD-LED WAYS

1. God leads if He is allowed

A man’s heart plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9

2. God-led ways are wiser

  • 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 1 Corinthians 1:20
  • 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:25

3. God-led ways stands / established

There are many plans in a man’s heart,
Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand. Proverbs 19:21

4. Understand God’s plans / God’s ways / God’s destiny (In Conclusion)

11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
“Eat and drink!” he says to you,
But his heart is not with you. Proverbs 23:7
