A. LIVING ACCORDING TO MAN’S WILL

1. Man’s Will Apart from God’s Will

  • 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. James 4:13
  • 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” James 4:15
  • 17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. James 4:17

Meaning:

  • Man’s Will
    • Selfish living
    • Selfish boasting
  • Accurate way – to subject man’s will to God’s will

2. Denial of Man’s Will To Do God’s Will

  • 23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. Luke 9:23
  • 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. Luke 9:24
  • 25 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? Luke 9:25

Meaning:

  • Paradox to living that is apart from self – “save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it”
  • The wrong approach to life – to gain the world but loosing one’s soul

3. Self Seeking Against Seeking God’s Will – Prioritising God’s Will Being The Antidote To Life’s Worries & Agonies

  • 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. Matthew 6:32
  • 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33

Meaning:

  • Man prioritises seeking all that makes up life
  • This is what the world seeks
  • Which is the wrong approach to life
  • But when we seek God’s will, we have all things

4. Man’s Will Is To Live In Sin

26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, Hebrews 10:26

  • to sin wilfully – willingly
  • to enslave one-selves with pleasures of flesh

B. HOW JESUS LIVED?

1. Jesus Came To Do / Fulfil His Father’s Will

38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. John 6:38

2. Jesus Came To Save Mankind

10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10

3. Jesus Came To Serve

28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28

4. Jesus Came To Give Abundant Life

10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10

SUMMARY

1. Live life selflessly. Remove ‘self’ from the equation

2. Live with eternity in view is the accurate way to live

3. Live to gain God by loosing self
