Keys to Enter God’s Highway

1. Hunger and thirst for God and God’s reality

  • (i) David longed for God
    • 1 As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So pants my soul for You, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God? Psalms 42:1,2
  • (ii) David literally cried to seek for God
    •  My tears have been my food day and night,
While they continually say to me,
“Where is your God?” Psalms 42:3
  • (iii) David thought about God / looked back
    • When I remember these things,
I pour out my soul within me.
      For I used to go with the multitude;
I went with them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise,
With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast. Psalms 42:4
  • (iv) David spoke to his soul
    •  Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance. Psalms 42:5
  • (v) David worshipped / confessed / prayed to God
    •  I will say to God my Rock,
      “Why have You forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?” Psalms 42:9
2. Be in a place of poverty of the spirit / of want
  • Being poor in the spirit is the access to God / God’s throne
    • “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3
    • Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God. Matthew 5:8
  • Being poor in the spirit is the access to become rich on the earth
    • Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5
3. Primary objective in life is to seek God
  • The reality of man’s life is to worry
    • “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ Matthew 6:31
  • But God says this is how the world lives not the way God’s children should live
    • For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things Matthew 6:32
  • But our focus must be to seek God
    • But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33
  • Live without worry
    • Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34
